Ø6 - Samsung Note 8

Introducing Galaxy Note 8

With the launch of the Note 8, Samsung was ready for a big comeback. R/GA was tapped to create a landing experience for the new Note 8 that would highlight its special features. This experience would have to be interactive, educational, and delightful. And it had to do more than display the phone - it had to overcome the stigma of Samsung’s Note 7.

We worked on the family of pages for the launch of the Note 8 (codename “Great”). This included a landing page, feature pages, compare pages, switchers pages, and additional pages targeted at specific users. Our goals were to create a dynamic experience that made the highly informational pages more engaging and relevant to the users.

We worked on different ways of interactive storytelling. My core focus was creating an exploratory experience higlighting the physical phone. Working with R/GA's production studio, I created a scrollable video that would allow users to explore the device, while clicking at highlighted moments to view more details about that part of the phone. With my background in 3d animation, were were able to quickly prototype different iterations and ways of interacting with the device. View the process, or see the final result below.

I wanted to create something mimicking the physical exploration of a device at a store by incorporating a video of the phone rotating and showing the hardware elements. By scrubbing horizontally, users could speed up or slow down, as if they were scrolling through the video. At any point, the user could tap and show cards with details of the feature currently focused on in the video.

To test and experiment, I created a video in Maya, which allowed me to quickly prototype different interactions in Principle, while staying high fidelity enough to convey a new concept.

The Note 8 includes a stylus, the S Pen. With the team, we created detail pages for the pen and device.
